After their series against Australia, Bangladesh are all set to face New Zealand in a five-match T20I series. The opening game is set to take place on Wednesday, September 1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

The Tigers must be brimming with confidence after their 4-1 win over the Aussies. The games in the series were pretty low-scoring as the bowlers, especially the spinners, made hay. Shakib Al Hasan went for 30 runs in one of the overs, but he came back to become the Player of the Series.

The Black Caps, on the other hand, have reasons to worry about going into the 20-over format. Finn Allen tested positive for COVID-19 and has become uncertain for the series.

None of the members of the Kiwis squad is a part of the T20 World Cup in the UAE later this year. Tom Latham will lead a relatively young team and the southpaw has a massive task at hand if New Zealand want to win the series.

Playing combination for BAN vs NZ

Bangladesh

Mohammad Naim has been effective with the bat, but he’s not a certainty especially after Das’s return. Mushfiqur Rahim’s return has bolstered the Tigers’ lineup to a large extent. Shakib and Mahmudullah remain the fulcrum of the middle order. Afif and Mahedi were impressive against the Aussies. The onus will also be on Mustafizur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed to get amongst the wickets.

Predicted XI

Mohammad Naim Shaikh/Soumya Sarkar, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (w), Mahmudullah (c), Afif Hossain, Mahedi Hasan, Shamim Hossain Patwary, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed, Shoriful Islam

Bench: Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Mohammad Saifuddin, Aminul Islam Biplob, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Taijul Islam

New Zealand

If Allen doesn’t play, Tom Latham and Will Young are most likely to open the batting for the visitors. The likes of Henry Nicholls and Colin de Grandhomme need to bring all their experience to the fore. Keeping in mind the spin-friendly conditions, both Ajaz Patel and Rachin Ravindra should get a chance. Matt Henry and Scott Kuggelejin have enough experience and they need to step up as well.

Predicted XI

Finn Allen/Cole McConchie, Tom Latham (c and wk), Will Young, Henry Nicholls, Tom Blundell, Colin de Grandhomme, Rachin Ravindra, Scott Kuggelejin, Ajaz Patel, Doug Bracewell/Hamish Bennett, Matt Henry

Bench: Jacob Duffy, Cole McConchie, Doug Bracewell/Hamish Bennett, Ben Sears, Blair Tickner
