Mumbai Indians had lost three consecutive matches in the UAE leg of the IPL. However, the five-time champions bounced back stronger against Punjab Kings to secure their first win since the resumption of the IPL. MI’s fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah scalped two wickets in the match. However, interestingly his wife Sanjana Ganesan predicted that he will pick two wickets in the match and that is what exactly happened.

MI was desperately in search of a victory as they were languishing down the points table. With a clinical bowling display against PBKS, the team was able to restrict the opposition for just 135 runs. None of Punjab’s batter could provide enough resistance apart from Aiden Markram, who added 42 runs and top-scored for the side.

Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda

Bumrah clinched the wicket of Nicholas Pooran with a lethal yorker, which went on to hit the batter’s front pad on the middle and leg stump. The speedster then sent back Deepak Hooda, who looked to hit a six over extra covers but was caught by Pollard at wide long-on. In an interaction with Mumbai Indians, Ganesan was asked to predict the number of wickets the pacer would pick in the match. “I would want him to pick 5 wickets but I think he will pick 2 wickets in the match,” she said during the interaction.

After having won the toss, MI decided to bowl first at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi. A win in the match was pivotal for the team to fancy their chances of making it to the playoffs. Kieron Pollard starred with both the bat and the ball to be one of the architects of the team’s victory. He picked up two important wickets of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle wherein the former’s wicket was Pollard’s 300th T20 wicket.

He was awarded the Player of the Match for his splendid all-rounder performance. However, speaking on the criticism the West Indies cricketer said that the team’s aim is to back the individuals and provide them confidence.

“It’s difficult when you have a lot of other people on the outside as well speaking about it. These people speak and they don’t understand what people go through as cricketers. So for us, it is about backing individuals and trying to give them the confidence to do well because they are young, talented individuals,” Pollard said as quoted by Times Now.
