India’s defeat in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand seems to have affected the team India and captain Virat Kohli on a large scale. As per reports, two senior batters of team India called up BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressing their opinions on Kohli’s captaincy. The two players in question are supposedly Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara.
Both the batters were placed under major scrutiny for their performances against New Zealand in the high-profile match. Pujara scored 8 off 54 balls in the first innings and managed only 15 runs off 80 balls in the second. Rahane, on the other hand, scored 49 in the first and added 15 off 40 balls in the second.
“The mindset has to be to score runs and find ways to score runs. You can’t be too worried about getting out because you are [then] bringing the bowler into the game completely,” the Indian skipper had asserted in the post-match presentation.
As per the reports in the New Indian Express, Rahane and Pujara had approached Shah to discuss Kohli’s captaincy and that is when the board chimed in this matter. Post this, BCCI asked for feedback from the other players in the team. It is now being speculated that the Indian captain’s decision to step down as India’s T20 skipper might be connected to this.
Kohli to step down as team India’s T20I skipper post the T20 World Cup
Recently, the batter took it to his social media accounts to announce that he will give up the T20 captaincy after the upcoming mega event. A few days later, he also came forward to inform that this would be his last season as RCB skipper and that he will play only as a player from the next edition of the IPL. This decision of Kohli had fetched in a lot of reactions from the cricketing fraternity and the fans.
Earlier, it was also reported that India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was also not quite happy with Kohli’s captaincy. The off-spinner did not feature in any of the four Test matches against England as team India went with Jadeja as the lone spinner and opted for four pacers.
