England’s flop show with the bat in the series continued on Day 1 of the third Ashes Test at the MCG as they got bundled out for a paltry 185. Pat Cummins, who missed the second Test, returned to captaincy duties as he won the toss and opted to bowl first. Haseeb Hameed, who got a new partner in form of Zak Crawley, recorded his third duck in 2021 as skipper Cummins got his wicket.

It was the same old story for the British as captain Joe Root scored yet another fifty with no other batter even reaching the 40-run mark. Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow both got starts as they scored 25 and 35 respectively but couldn’t convert it into valuable scores. Jos Buttler, who played over 200 deliveries in the second innings of the last Test, survived just 11 this time as he got out for just three runs. Skipper Cummins and Nathan Lyon took three wickets each with debutant Scott Boland also opening his account with Mark Wood’s wicket.

The hosts, who ended the day on 61/1, would look to wipe off the deficit of 124 runs as quickly as possible on Day 2 and score big runs once again to put more misery on the visiting team who are having a disastrous tour til now. While Joe Root would hope for some magic from his bowlers against the in-form Australian side who are already looking to post big first-innings total once again in the series.

Meanwhile, here are the important stats and numbers from Australia vs England, 3rd Ashes Test Day 1:
