There’s no doubt that the Aussies and the IPL share a very healthy relationship. Amongst all of the top eight international teams, Australia is the hot place from where many of IPL’s overseas entities arrive.

Now for over the years, leagues like the BBL, CPL and PSL are termed to be the auditioning platforms for an IPL ticket. Also not to forget that the scouting troops of many IPL teams strenuously survey these competitions to find the untapped diamonds available inside the rough.

In return for the uncapped players from around the world, the IPL also becomes a penultimate stage to unveil themselves globally before their international debut. For the Aussies, their commendable performances in the BBL has often rewarded them whopping contracts especially in IPL 2021.

Here are 5 uncapped players from BBL 2021-22 who can be hot picks in IPL 2022 mega auction:

1. Josh Inglis

Josh Inglis, the wicket-keeper batter, is already a 2021 World T20 winner. The 26-year old from Western Australia was a well-deserved backup for the frontline gloveman Matthew Wade in the mega event. In recent times, Inglis has been a run-machine whether it’s been the white-ball cricket or the red-ball affairs.

In the BBL, Inglis has been in operation since its seventh season. Last year, the cricketer had also smashed a total of 413 runs at an average of 34.42 in his 17 games. Even in terms of his entire BBL record, Inglis has scored a total of 941 runs at an average of under 30 along with a strike rate of 143.45.

As a hard-hitting batter, this Australian can flexibly occupy any position from lower-middle order till the top. In a general sense, the IPL teams that have tried players like Josh Philippe can see Inglis as his contemporary. All in all, the franchises which will target overseas wicket-keeper batters like Sam Billings and Matthew Wade might show a similar interest for this young Australian.

2. Ben Dwarshuis

For Ben Dwarshuis, his international and IPL debut has been very close in recent times. The left-arm pacer has been part of the two IPL franchises (KXIP and DC) in the past and was also selected for the tour of South Africa in 2018. When it comes to performing in the BBL, The 27-year old has been brimming with wickets in the past few seasons.

In terms of his overall BBL stats, the speedster is already Sydney Sixer’s second-highest all-time wicket-taker and has scalped a total of 85 wickets from his 69 games. In the ninth edition of BBL, Dwarshuis was one of the chief heroes of the Sydney Sixers team especially by delivering a match-winning final over in the finale. In fact from the eighth season onwards, this left-arm pacer has been constantly topping the wicket charts and has become the tournaments sixth-highest all-time wicket-taker.

Now, with regards to his demand in the mega auction, Dwarshuis’ left-arm pace proposition will definitely make him earn some good bucks merely because of the limited supply of overseas left-arm pacers. Overall, the franchises that like to stack their squads with overseas pacers can bid strongly for this 27-year old Australian.

3. Alex Ross

As an explosive middle-order batter, Alex Ross has been playing the BBL since its fourth season. So far the cricketer has represented teams like Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat and currently has been appearing for Sydney Thunders. The 29-year old has scored a total of 1324 runs at an average of under 29 in 71 matches.

Also, in terms of his overall numbers in T20 cricket, Ross has in total played 74 games scoring 1370 runs at a strike rate of 126.73. The cricketer in his gameplay is often known for his innovative strokes especially the sweep shot, which can be termed as his key strength.

Overall with regards to his IPL demand, Ross can be signed as a reserve for any of the elite overseas middle-order batters. All in all, as a meaty striker of the ball, the franchises who play on flat tracks can sign him at a reasonable deal.

4. Tanveer Sangha

In the last season of BBL, Tanveer Sangha’s bowling was an absolute revelation. The 20-year old, while playing his debut season for Sydney Thunders, took the most wickets by a spinner in BBL 10 and overall emerged as the joint third-highest wicket-taker of the last season.

More importantly, so far from his 16 appearances, the young leg-spinner has bowled more than 100 plus dot balls and has scalped 22 wickets. Even in terms of his economy, Tanveer has conceded runs at a rate of around eight. Barring all this, the spinner was also prominently praised for bagging wickets of batters who were best in the business.

Though in the IPL the franchises barely play an overseas leg-spinner, still this Australian leggier can become a fruitful backup for any of the frontline individuals. Maybe teams like CSK and KKR who like bagging overseas spinners can look to sign this rousing talent.

5. Jake Weatherald

From BBL’s seventh season onwards, Jake Weatherald has been one of the vital cogs of the team Adelaide Strikers. Since his debut in the sixth season, the cricketer has amassed more than 1600 runs from his 64 games at an average of under 29. The southpaw is also one of the highest all-time run-scorer of the team Adelaide.

However, in the 10th seaon, Weatherald produced one of his best seasons where the opener stacked a total of 433 runs at an average of 36.08 from his 15 games. As a top-order batter, the 27-year old is well popular for giving steadfast starts along with scoring big. The Australian apart from the BBL has also represented Quetta Gladiators in the PSL.

For IPL franchises, Weatherald’s gameplay can be considered analogous especially to what the likes of Quinton De Kock, Devon Conway offers. All in all, maybe for the two new IPL teams, Weatherald can become a reserve for their frontline openers.
