All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja relinquished the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday (April 30), and MS Dhoni will now head the team in the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. According to a CSK statement, Jadeja decided to focus on his game, and Dhoni accepted to lead the team in the broader interest.
“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” read an official statement from CSK.
The CSK team management chose to designate Ravindra Jadeja as the new captain before the start of IPL 2022, as he had been with the team since 2012, and Dhoni is not expected to play for too long. Meanwhile, reacting to the news, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan expressed his sympathy for Jadeja and said that he hopes this does not have a detrimental impact on him.
“I really Feel for Ravindra Jadeja. Let’s hope it doesn’t effect (sic) him as a cricketer in a negative way,” Pathan tweeted.

Dhoni had passed on the leadership to Jadeja before the start of this season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Despite this, the team is now ranked 9th in the IPL points table, and they have a difficult task of winning all the games to qualify for the playoffs.
Jadeja has only managed to score 112 runs in eight games so far this season, but he has bagged five wickets with the ball in hand. Dhoni, on the other hand, has been in fantastic form with the bat and even led CSK to a brilliant victory over the Mumbai Indians. Dhoni hammered 16 runs off the final four balls to help the reigning champions over the finish line.
