The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an 18-member squad for their upcoming five-match T20I series on July 14. While KL Rahul and spinner Kuldeep Yadav have been included in the squad subject to fitness, netizens were left unhappy after Virat Kohli was left out.
To note, Kohli was also not included in the first ODI match against England due to a niggle, and his participation in the second fixture, to be played at Lords on July 14 (Thursday), is also in doubt. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian side during the West Indies tour with senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also returning to the squad.
Kohli scored just 12 runs in two T20Is against England
After not being able to perform well in the rescheduled Test match, Kohli was rested for the first T20I fixture against the Three Lions with batter Deepak Hooda taking his place and playing well for his 33 runs in just 17 balls. However, Hooda was dropped from the team with star batter Kohli returning to the squad.
The 33-year-old would have wanted to score some runs but he managed to make only 1. The 33-year-old tried to do something different in the second T20I as he looked busy on the wicket. After opening his account with a single, Kohli smashed David Willey for consecutive boundaries but perished soon after amassing just 11 runs.
Talking about Kohli’s numbers in T20I format, the right-handed batter has played 99 T20 matches and has scored 3308 runs at an excellent average of 50.12. He has also stroked 30 fifties with 94 being his highest score. With him missing from the Indian squad, the news has sparked a debate whether he has been dropped or rested. Meanwhile, the first T20I match between West Indies and India is slated to be played on July 29.
