Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is conquering the world, one series at a time, as the Indian juggernaut keeps rolling over opponents in white-ball cricket, making the Men in Blue one of the firm favorites of the T20 World Cup down under later this year. The elegant opener took over the reins from former skipper Virat Kohli and has accomplished numerous accolades in a relatively short tenure.
The explosive right-hand batter is renowned for dispatching bowlers in the field, but his prowess is not limited to the cricketing field only, as he has stumped several reporters with his savagery in front of the microphone. While his predecessors were more eloquent speakers, Rohit is more quick-witted and blunt with his responses.
We look at the instances when the flamboyant batter hit the reporters’ questions out of the park with his savage responses.
1. ‘Next time I’ll check where the camera is’ – Rohit Sharma post-India’s clash with Bangladesh in 2019
The Indian team led by stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma squared off in the second T20I match against Bangladesh Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in 2019 after a surprise loss against the visitors in the series opener.
During Bangladesh’s batting innings, Indian keeper Rishabh Pant claimed to stump Soumya Sarkar with the replays on the big screen clearly showing the batter was out of the crease. The third umpire, due to a technical glitch, gave the not-out signal on the big screen. Rohit was incensed by this decision and was caught swearing on the stump mic.
When the Indian skipper was asked about the incident in a post-match presser, he replied in trademark savage style, “Ultimately the aim is to get the job done, and sometimes we display a lot of emotions. Next time I’ll check where the camera is.” His quick-witted response made the reporters burst out in laughter.
2. ‘If I ever become Pakistan’s coach, I will definitely let you know,’ post the victory against Pakistan in the 2019 WC
India locked horns with eternal rivals Pakistan in a blockbuster clash in a group match of the ICC World Cup in 2019 at Old Trafford in Manchester. The Indian team batted first in the match and scored a mammoth total of 336/5 in their 50 overs.
Rohit Sharma took the Pakistani bowlers apart with a sensational century, amassing 140 runs off just 113 deliveries. His innings was crucial to India’s victory as they thumped their nemesis by 89 runs.
The Indian opener was awarded the Player of the Match for his exploits with the bat and during the presser in the aftermath of the win, he was asked about the crisis among the Pakistani batters and what would he advise them. Rohit responded with an epic answer saying, “If I ever become Pakistan’s coach, I will definitely l let you know. What can I say right now.” His hilarious response induced a burst of laughter from the media personnel.
Q: How do you suggest Pakistan batsmen come out of the current crisis?

3. ‘You all wanted Rishabh Pant to play right?’ on Rishabh Pant’s inclusion in the 2019 WC squad
Rohit Sharma was in sensational form during the 2019 WC in England as he slew bowlers on his way to five centuries in the tournament, the most in any single World Cup by a batter. But he was prolific off the pitch as well with his shrewd remarks in response to unconventional questions.
One such incident occurred when the Indian team squared off against the eventual winners England in the 2019 WC group clash. Rishabh Pant, who was not part of the squad initially, joined the team as a replacement for the injured Shikhar Dhawan.
In the post-match presser, when Rohit was quizzed about the team’s decision to send in the explosive southpaw at no.4 ahead of the in-form Hardik Pandya, the Indian opener, who scored a century in the game, was bemused by the question. The vice-captain silenced the reporters with his typical blunt response, “You all wanted Rishabh Pant to play right? Right from India – Where is Rishabh Pant, where is Rishabh Pant, There he is at number 4.”

4. Rohit Sharma defends Virat Kohli after a prolonged lean run of form
Former Indian skipper and batting maestro Virat Kohli is going through an unprecedented slump with the bat, that continued in the recently concluded white-ball series against hosts England.
Amidst widespread criticism of the elegant batter, Rohit Sharma batted for the underfire Indian cricketer and retaliated with a fiery reply to a reporter who asked about Kohli in the aftermath of a poor outing against the English side in the second ODI at Lord’s.
The Indian skipper had rubbished talks on his teammate’s form after the first ODI and was seemingly irritated after the question was raised for a second successive presser.
The reporter enquired about the talk on Virat’s form, “Virat Kohli ke baare me inti baat ho rahi hai? (So much is being talked about Kohli).”
A visibly irritated Rohit Sharma silenced the critics with a raging response, “Kyon ho rahi hai, matlab mujhe samajh me nhi aata hai? Yaar matlab bande ne itne run banaye hai, mujhe to samajh nahi aa raha form pe discussion kyun ho rhi hai. (Why is it happening, I do not understand. Someone who has made so many runs is being questioned over his form. I don’t understand this).”
Rohit was yet again asked on Virat. And I am glad he said what he has. Good to see the captain back his top man. pic.twitter.com/OBtd4JHOFE

5. Rohit Sharma delivers a brutal statement to defend the Chepauk pitch
The Indian pitches are often the center of attention for foreign media outlets wherever countries like England and Australia tour the subcontinent, blaming the abject failure of their batters to tackle spin on the pitches.
The English team toured India back in 2021 and after a humiliating defeat in the second Test at Chepauk, former cricketers Michael Vaughan and Mark Waugh criticized the groundsmen for preparing a ‘minefield’. The then vice-captain Rohit Sharma spoke to the press in a virtual conference and gave a fitting reply to the detractors.
“When we go out, other countries don’t think about us, so why should we think about others. We should make pitches according to the preference of our team. This is what it means home and away advantage, otherwise, this should be taken out. Tell ICC to make a rule that pitches should be prepared the same everywhere,” Rohit blasted the critics with a fiery statement during the press conference.
🗣️🗣️ Every team has the right to home advantage, reckons @ImRo45. @Paytm #INDvENG #TeamIndia pic.twitter.com/ZbF7ufj01M
