Team England skipper Heather Knight is set to miss the white-ball series against India slated to be played in September this year. The right-handed batter has gone through hip surgery and is set to miss the action for a decent amount of time. Knight suffered a hip injury during the T20I series against South Africa and also missed the all-important 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The home team had a decent run in the mega event but failed to grab a medal in CWG 2022. The home team went on to defeat Sri Lanka in the first match of CWG and then thrashed the Proteas side in their second group stage match. England Women also defeated the White Ferns in their last group stage encounter.
After performing exceedingly well in the group stage matches, the home team faced India in the semi-finals fixture and they suffered a close defeat by a mere margin of four runs. Team England suffered heartbreak in the bronze medal match as they lost to New Zealand by eight wickets and were thrashed out of the competition.
I am aiming to be back by the end of the year: Heather Knight
The 31-year-old has stated that she has undergone hip surgery and will miss the limited-over series against the Women in Blue. Not only against India, but Knight is also slated to miss the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League, which starts in October.
“I’ve had a little clean out of my hip to get me back and running soon,” posted Knight on social media. “Unfortunately, it rules me out of the India series and the WBBL, but I’m aiming to be back by the end of the year.
“Time to make the most of a bit of time away and bring on the rehab!” she added. The three-match T20I series between India and England will start on September 10. After the T20I series is done and dusted, the focus will shift to the ODI fixtures.
