While members of the Indian team have been working hard to book themselves a semi-finals berth at the T20 World Cup 2022, a bizarre incident took place on Monday, October 31, as former Indian captain Virat Kohli took to his social media to inform everyone that someone had created a video of his hotel room and leaked it online.
Virat Kohli shared the video and expressed disbelief and disgrace and called for strict action against the member of the hotel staff who had recorded the video. The Indian team played their previous match at the Optus Stadium in Perth and the players have been staying at The Crown Perth, where the incident took place.
While speaking on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' show on CricTracker, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer opined that the incident was shocking and totally unacceptable as he said:
“It is not a good thing. There is the hotel staff and the housekeeping who frequently visit the room. But shooting a video of someone’s room and making it viral, is crossing the line. There is no doubt that housekeeping visits your room when players are out for their match or practice sessions, but they are not allowed to do all these things. Nowadays, it seems like a trend to upload everything on social media, and I think that is crossing the line.”

Former India cricketer Nikhil Chopra was also critical about the matter while speaking about it on the show, and said that the hotel’s security should be tightened.
“This is a very serious matter and should not be taken lightly. Because every player needs privacy. That’s a player’s private domain. The way they keep and organize their things, for example when we used to travel, we used to have idols of god in our room. Why would one want to showcase that in the public domain? If someone can enter the room and take pictures, then there are full chances of theft.”
“Security concerns should be a matter of concern for the hotel now, and as far as I know, this is not being taken lightly. The security will be tighter now. When you are at a tournament like a world cup, your focus will be on the game and the tournament. You don’t need your focus to be on what is happening back in my hotel room because someone clicked pictures and videos and made them viral. It is very upsetting, to be honest,” Chopra added.
In a recent turn of events, the hotel released an official statement and revealed that the members of the staff who were involved in leaking the video online were suspended from their respective duties, and apologized to the Indian cricket team and the ICC for the act, thereby assuring that the matter will be investigated deeply.
