The first of the three ODIs between New Zealand and India at the Eden Park in Auckland got underway on Friday, November 25 and the Shikhar Dhawan led-side had two youngsters making their debuts in the game. Arshdeep Singh, who was quite impressive throughout the T20 World Cup 2022 for India was handed his maiden ODI cap while speedster Umran Malik was the other debutant.

India posted 306 for 7 in their 50 overs on the back of half-centuries from the top three batters Shreyas Iyer (80), Shikhar Dhawan (72) and Shubman Gill (50). Washington Sundar’s fireworks with the bat towards the end was quite helpful as he scored an unbeaten 37 off 16 to provide the final flourish. With the batting department having done its work, all eyes were on the young seamers.

While Arshdeep did not have the best of starts in his first spell, Umran used his pace to rattle the opposition batters. The Jammu & Kashmir pacer clocked speeds above 145 Kmph in his very first over and did not take his time in unsettling the batters. He was rewarded with the big wicket of Devon Conway as his maiden scalp and went on to dismiss Daryl Mitchell later in the spell which proved to be quite fruitful for him.

Here’s the video of Umran rattling Conway with a quick delivery:

Umran kept the pace up consistently and bowled a 150 Kmph delivery in just his second over which was a delight to watch for the Indian fans. In fact, the first delivery he bowled to Mitchell was a 153.1 Kmph delivery and set him up beautifully during his spell.

Umran, who had recorded the fastest delivery by an Indian bowler in IPL history for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, has managed to keep the same intensity going in the international arena and the management would be hoping that he picks up more wickets in the coming fixtures even if they come at the cost of conceding runs.
