Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer feELS that Sri Lanka will be delighted with the victory against Afghanistan due to the number of injuries they have had so far in the tournament. Afghanistan batted first and they had the platform to post a a big total at one stage of the game, however, wickets at regular intervals changed the game in Sri Lanka’s favour completely.

Dhananjaya de Silva’s unbeaten 66 was enough for Sri Lanka to chase down the target of 145 with nine balls to spare comfortably. With the victory, Sri Lanka still stay in the competition and will have to hope for the other results in the group to go their way.

The Island nation are currently at the third position in the points table with four points from four games and their final game against England will be quite crucial to their chances.

Every win is important when you are playing in the Super 12 stages: Wasim Jaffer

Jaffer felt that wins are always important in any game and noted that Afghanistan is not an easy side to beat with the match-winners they have got. He explained how Sri Lanka’s chances in the tournament still exist for semi-finals and added that a Super 12 stage win in the T20 World Cup is always important.

“Every win gives confidence without a doubt. Afghanistan is not an easy team to bundle up or roll over, they have got match winners. The problem with Afghanistan is their batting, they aren’t giving enough runs for the bowlers to play with. But, Sri Lanka will be happy with two points and to stay alive in the tournament. If they win the next match, the semi-finals is still on the cards. Every win is important when you are playing in the Super 12 stages,” Jaffer told on BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.
