The mighty Indian Premier League Auction is back again, and like every other season, fans can expect it to be a cracker. The league has not only made careers of many cricketers but it also increases their bank balance in a hefty manner.

IPL is now the second-most valuable sports league in the world, after the American National Football League (NFL). The mega T20 League has surpassed the English Premier League (EPL), Major League Basketball (MLB), and National Basketball Association League (NBA) in the list of most valuable sports leagues globally.

The expected total revenue of IPL in the upcoming cycle may reach up to $7.6 billion. The league is getting bigger day by day and the standard of cricket is also increasing. As salaries play a very crucial role in a professional’s life, some cricketers miss the trick and set their base price a bit higher which results in them being unsold at the auction. Talking in same line, let's take a look at-

5 Players who have set their base price too high in the  2023 auction

1. Chris Jordan (2 Crore)

The death-bowling specialist of the English team has fixed his base price at two crores in the auction. Jordan is known for his accurate line in the death overs. He has been one of the match-winners for England in T20Is in the last few years. He has a lot of experience playing T20 cricket as he plays in several T20 leagues around the world.

The pacer made his IPL debut in 2016 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has played 28 IPL games till now claiming 27 wickets at an average of 30.85. Jordan is the leading wicket-taker for England in the history of T20Is. He has 95 wickets in 84 games at an average of 27.05. The English cricketer is a terrific fielder too.

The Barbados-born fast bowler can most likely be seen in the list of unsold players after the auction as most of the teams already have their squads ready and they will not prefer to go for an overseas pacer for two crores. He might not get picked by any of the IPL franchises. It will be interesting to see if any of the franchises show interest in buying Chris Jordan.

2. Angelo Mathews (2 Crore)

The Sri Lankan all-rounder has been one of the most popular cricketers in his country. Mathews did a lot for Sri Lankan cricket as he was the captain of the country’s team for a long time. He is an experienced block that makes him aware of all the situations and scenarios of game.

The Colombo cricketer has played 78 T20Is for Sri Lanka scoring 1148 runs and claiming 38 wickets. He has a lot of experience playing limited-overs cricket. Mathews has played in several T20 leagues in the world too. He made his IPL debut in the second season in 2009 and played continuously till 2017.

Angelo is 35-year-old now and he is not much effective as he used to be. He even got dropped from the Sri Lanka side in both ODIs and T20Is. At this point of time, two crore seem too much for his base price.

3. Jimmy Neesham (2 Crore)

Jimmy Neesham is a star in the New Zealand cricketing circuit. He has been a regular feature for the New Zealand limited-overs side for the last few years. He is known for his three-dimensional gameplay. He is a solid batter, a reliable medium pacer, and a gun fielder in the outfield and is a match-winner on his day.

The kiwi star has played 60 T20Is for New Zealand scoring 688 runs at an average of 22.19 and has 25 wickets to his name. He has played 14 IPL games till now picking eight wickets and scoring 92 runs. Neesham also plays in a few other T20 leagues like CPL, PSL, and BBL.

The Auckland-born all-rounder last played IPL for the Rajasthan Royals. He is a good package and a few IPL teams can consider him. Despite being a good player, the two crore base price is quite high for him. It will be very surprising if any team looks to bid for him on the 23rd of this month.

4. Philip Salt (2 Crore)

The brand-new edition to the English limited-overs side, Philip Salt is a talented youngster. Salt is a naturally attacking opener who is known for his explosive style. The shortest format of the game suits the most with Philip’s batting style. He loves to play his shots right from the start of innings and undoubtedly looks like the future of English Cricket.

The Englishman has impressive numbers in domestic cricket. Due to his consistent performances in the domestic tournaments, the selectors decided to give him a chance to play for England and he did not disappoint them. He has played 13 T20Is for England scoring 245 runs at a strike rate of 161.18.

The 26-year-old got a chance to play the other T20 leagues like CPL and PSL and he did well. Despite having so much talent he might miss out on an IPL contract for the 2023 season. He could have fixed his base price a little low as he has kept his base price as

5. Travis Head (2 Crore)

The stylish left-handed batter is an integral member of the Australian cricket team. He is a dependable cricketer for his nation. However, he has still not established his name in the 20-over format. He has played just 17 T20Is for Australia after making his debut in 2016. He has played some good knocks in the Big Bash League but he lacks consistency.

In 17 T20Is, Travis has scored 345 runs at an average of 26.54 and is yet to score a fifty. Head has played two seasons of IPL. In 10 IPL games, he has scored 205 runs at an average of 29.29. He never got picked by any IPL franchise after 2017. Still, Head can be a good choice for a few of the teams as he has that spark.

The southpaw can be a good choice in the middle order and some of the IPL teams crave a solid left-handed middle-order batter. His name will be called at the auction with a base price of two crores. It will be a twist if any team thinks out of the box and go for him at the auction.
