The Kochi Corporation is introducing a robot to clean sewage manholes in the city. The robot is called "Bandicoot." The corporation is also exploring the possibilities of using an advanced version of Bandicoot for cleaning drainages too in the city. The machine will soon be introduced in the city and they are bought with funds from Cochin Shipyard Ltd. Bandicoot will help clean the manholes thus avoiding manual cleaning. Mayor M Anil Kumarthe corporation has asked the startup firm which manufactures the machine to add features to clean drainages too when new robots are built. "Now the robot's operation is in a vertical manner if features enable the robot to work horizontally also we will be able to use it for cleaning drainages in the city presently we are cleaning the drainages manually and it causes a lot of difficulties." said anil kumar. "We have asked the manufacturers of Bandicoot to explore the possibilities of adding new features which will help it clean the drainages too if the manufacturers succeed in the attempt we can use the robot for cleaning the drainage also." he added. The bandicoot consists of two major parts- a stand unit and drone unit. The drone unit will dive into the sewer manhole for cleaning operations or clearing blocks
