The second of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia kicked off in Vizag on Sunday, March 19. Steve Smith called it right at the toss and sent India to bat first on a relatively dry surface that was under the covers for quite some time due to the recent weather on the northeastern coast.
Mitchell Starc started the proceedings for the visitors with the new ball and drew first blood in the third ball of the game, sending Shubman Gill to the pavilion for an early shower. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli looked promising in the middle, but Starc struck again in the fifth over, dismissing Rohit for just 13.
Suryakumar Yadav strode into the Dr. Y.S Rajashekara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vishakapatnam to get into the groove after registering his first-ever ODI duck in Mumbai. However, the 32-year-old was immediately on his way back to the pavilion after being trapped plumb in front by a searing in-swinger from Mitchell Starc. He got out on a second straight golden duck, which meant his ODI batting average went down by three points.
Suryakumar's wicket came amid an excellent new ball spell from Starc.
