Courtesy of Kolkata Knight Riders’ tremendous win over Punjab Kings in the last match, the league table is completely open for each and every team to step up and capitalise. Thus, the match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals on May 10 at MA Chidambaram Stadium holds a lot of importance as both will fight to keep their hopes alive to qualify for IPL playoffs.
Talking about the MS Dhoni-led side, it defeated its arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the last match by six wickets. The bowlers were fantastic on the night as the five-time champions posted only 139 runs. Deepak Chahar picked up two wickets and so did Tushar Deshpande.
Thus, Delhi Capitals should be aware of CSK bowlers as they often prove to be dangerous with the new ball. On the other hand, Matheesa Pathirana once again had a blast with the ball as the Sri Lanka international picked up three wickets.
When it comes to the batters, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad are on song at the moment. Ajinkya Rahane started the season well but hasn’t been fired in the last two matches and that remains to be a concern. Shivam Dube, however, is playing some brilliant cricket and thus, there are a lot of positives for the team at the moment.
Delhi Capitals meanwhile have turned their fortunes, winning four of their last five matches in IPL 2023. Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is in terrific form at the moment while others have chipped in from time to time. Opener Phil Salt smacked 87 runs off 45 deliveries in the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore and thus, batting looks more or less sorted for them.
Bowlers however need to improve. Ishant Sharma is in good form and so is Axar Patel but others will have to step up as well. Kuldeep leaked 37 runs in the last match and he has to be cautious against CSK as the batters are getting a lot of assistance from the pitch.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium is a batters paradise. Bowling first will be ideal and anything above 200 will be a good total at the venue.
