The 67th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will see the David Warner-led Delhi Capitals and the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings go against each other at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 20.
Delhi Capitals would be coming into the game on the back of a brilliant win against Punjab Kings, where they beat the Shikhar Dhawan-led side by 15 runs in a close game. With nothing to lose in the tournament, Delhi could prove to be a big hurdle for Chennai to cross in the forthcoming game. Despite being eliminated from the competition, it could be interesting to see what lineup the David Warner-led side could field against CSK.
Here's Delhi Capitals’ predicted XI against Chennai Super Kings:
Openers: David Warner (c), Prithvi Shaw
Delhi Capitals’ top order was magnificent in their previous clash. The performances of skipper David Warner and Indian batter Prithvi Shaw were integral to their posting a big total. Opening the innings, Warner scored 46 runs in 31 deliveries to provide a quickfire start to the side.
Furthermore, Prithvi Shaw made his return to the side after a few games on the bench, and the 23-year-old delivered. Shaw had put in horrid performances throughout the tournament, and he finally broke that jinx against Punjab, scoring 54 runs in 38 deliveries. After his knock, he would be expected to feature against Chennai.
Middle Order: Rilee Rossouw, Phil Salt (wk), Aman Hakim Khan, Yash Dhull
Delhi Capitals’ middle order was on top of their game as well in their previous clash against Punjab. South African batter Rilee Rossouw was exceptional in the previous game as he came in to bat after the fall of the first wicket and amassed 82* runs in just 37 balls. His knock was crucial for Delhi in notching up 213 runs on the board. English batter Phil Salt played a short cameo alongside Rossouw as the 26-year-old scored an unbeaten 26 off 14.
Aman Hakim Khan did not get a chance bat in Delhi’s last game. However, the 26-year-old has looked in good touch this season. In the 10 matches that he has played so far, he has amassed 103 runs to his name. If he does get the chance to bat against Chennai, he will be keen on putting a good show.
The 20-year-old Yash Dhull is expected to be in the starting XI against Chennai. Dhull did not get a chance bat in their previous game. The youngster has played three games this season, where he has batted twice and amassed just three runs.
All-rounders: Axar Patel
Star Indian all-rounder Axar Patel has been one of the most consistent performers for Delhi in the IPL 2023. Having played 13 matches in the tournament so far, Axar has amassed 268 runs and taken 11 wickets as well. In the last game against Punjab, Axar did not get to bat. However, he did take one wicket and concede 27 runs in three overs.
Bowlers: Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje
The bowling attack of Delhi Capitals looked shaky against Punjab Kings. However, they did manage to win the game by defending the mammoth total. Khaleel Ahmed put in a good spell. Bowling three overs, the Indian pacer dismissed Shahrukh Khan and conceded 20 runs. However, star Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav failed to impress in as he bowled three overs and did not take any wickets. On the other hand, Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje were the highest wicket-takers for the side in the last match, with two wickets each.
