Brisbane Heat are one of the most popular teams in the Big Bash League as well as the Women's Big Bash League. The men's team won the BBL on one previous occasion back in the second season in 2012-2013. On the other hand, the women's team won the WBBL in back-to-back editions in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.
Brisbane Heat have a total of over 2.1 million followers on their social media handles. No other sporting team in Australia or in New Zealand has more followers than them on social media. This achievement was acknowledged at the 2023 Australia and New Zealand Sports Technology Awards as Heat won in the ‘Social & Fan Engagement’ category, thanks to their commendable following on social media.
It is important to note that the club attracted 150 million video views in 2022-23 as their emphasis on posting more video content paid dividends. They were also the only BBL team to reach 100,000 TikTok followers.
Pete Lock, who is the General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Affairs of Brisbane Heat, lauded the marketing and social media units for being passionate about the team and having a knack for producing creative and engaging content. He was also happy that their efforts were acknowledged.
“The Heat’s marketing and social media team are very deserving of this award. We’re all very aware of the team’s passion, love for the brand, creativity and commitment to deliver high quality and engaging content, but it is very pleasing to be acknowledged by others in the industry. The Heat’s vision is to be a ‘globally recognised sports entertainment brand’, and winning this award proves we’re on the right track to achieving just that," Lock said.
In the last edition of BBL, Brisbane finished runner-up as they lost to Perth Scorchers in the final. On the other hand, in the WBBL, Brisbane lost in the Challenger to Adelaide Strikers. The upcoming BBL season begins on December 7 and will end on January 24. On the other hand, the WBBL will run from October 19 to December 2.
