Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to making his return to international cricket with the upcoming Ireland series. The 29-year-old has had a year ridden with injuries, sustaining a stress fracture in his lower back in 2022, Bumrah has been out of contention for selection in the Indian team for over a year now. During this time, he missed out on many major tournaments like the T20I World Cup 2022, the Asia Cup 2022, and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
However, after his lengthy injury spell, Bumrah is well on his way to making his return to the Indian team, as he was selected for India’s upcoming three-match T20I against the Irish side. Notably, Bumrah will be leading India in the three-match T20I series and will be keen to stay fit.
Ahead of his return, former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath came forward to opine over the same as well. McGrath talked of Bumrah’s unique action and opined that his action puts a lot of stress on the body, which is not good for a pacer.
"Bumrah is exceptional, and he is unique. The way he bowls, his run-up, and his delivery stride are very unique. But his bowling action and the way he goes about it does put a lot of stress on his body, so he needs to stay strong. If he does that, he can play quite a few years for India," Glenn McGrath told Sportstar.
Furthermore, McGrath also talked of the hectic schedule that players have to withstand in modern-day cricket. The former Aussie stated that the ever-changing schedule makes it very hard for players like Bumrah to compete across every format of the game.
"The current international schedule, the IPL and other T20 tournaments makes it harder for fast bowlers like Bumrah to play in all three formats but some bowlers can do it," McGrath said.
