Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan expressed his gratitude to fans present at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, in Delhi, after they registered a historic 69-run triumph over the defending champions, England, in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The win marked their second win in the history of the marquee event and the first over a Test-playing country. Notably, the historic game was played on Sunday, October 15.
The crowd in Delhi turned up in big numbers and threw their unwavering support behind the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side. In the same vein, the ace leg spin wizard, Rashid Khan, thanked the fans for backing his team which kept them going despite facing one of the strongest teams of white-ball format in the world. Khan seemed overjoyed by this and said through his heartwarming post that the Delhi crowd are really large-hearted people and love Afghanistan as their one of own.
"Delhi sach mein dil walon ki hai. A huge thank you to all the fans at the stadium who supported us and kept us going through out the game. And to all our supporters around the (world emoji), thank you for your love," Rashid wrote on his 'X' account.

Afghanistan beat England to register first win in the competition
In terms of the game, England won the toss and invited Afghanistan to bat first. The defending champions crumbled for 215 in 40.3 overs in front of Afghanistan’s trio of spinners. Earlier, half-centuries from opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (800 and wicketkeeper Ikram Alikhil (58) powered Afghanistan to post a reasonable 285-run target. Adil Rashid was key for England, finishing with outstanding figures of 3/42 in his full quota.
Harry Brook, who came to bat at No. 4, put up a resistance in England's unsuccessful chase against Afghanistan. he amassed 66 off 61 deliveries, including seven boundaries and one maximum, before being dismissed by Mujeeb ur Rahman in the 35th over, with England reeling at 169/8. Rashid Khan was one to take the final wicket of Mark Wood to hand Afghanistan a much-deserved victory. Meanwhile, Mujeeb picked up the Player of the Match award.
