After failing to retain the title in the Indian Premier League 2023 season, Gujarat Titans’ (GT) endeavours will be to play quality cricket again in the 2024 installment of the cash-rich T20 league and take the trophy for the second time under their captain Hardik Pandya.

Titans have some incredible names in their team but the franchise will look to get rid of its players who have failed to perform up to the expectations. Before the IPL 2024 auction, GT will release their list of non-performing players, and some names are the favourites to feature in it.

Here are three players GT might release ahead of IPL 2024 auction

3. Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi hit the headlines in the IPL 2023 auction when he got signed up at INR 6 crore by Titans. The speedster’s domestic performance for Uttar Pradesh played a vital part in getting the lucrative contract from the IPL 2022 champions. However, GT didn’t give Mavi a chance to play any game in the competition.

With Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma strengthening GT’s pace attack incredibly, the Titans were bound to make Mavi warm the benches. The pacer also missed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2023-24 due to a stress fracture and he is likely to miss crucial domestic tournaments.

India pacer's poor fitness might go against him in the upcoming days. The 2022 champions have some exceptional pacers such as Shami, Mohit, and skipper Pandya in their squad so they might not hesitate to take the decision to include the 24-year-old in their release list.

2. Joshua Little

Joshua Little grabbed a lot of eyeballs after receiving INR 4.4 crore from Titans at the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi. Witnessing this deal, cricket supporters were expecting the youngster to take advantage of the golden opportunity and deliver a scintillating bowling performance to his team.

However, the Irish speedster lacked discipline with the ball and failed to deliver the desired results to his side. Appearing in 10 matches for Titans, he got seven wickets at an economy of 8.64. In the final match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Little splurged 30 runs in his two-over spell and emerged as the most expensive bowler in the contest.

The 24-year-old is an excellent bowling talent but he failed to justify his role in GT in IPL 2023. The Gujarat-based outlet is unlikely to compromise in quality, and noting Little’s underwhelming performance, the franchise may drop him from their IPL 2024 squad.

1. Alzarri Joseph

Gujarat acquired Alzarri Joseph at INR 2.4 crore in the IPL 2022 auction. In GT’s maiden title victory, he chipped in with seven wickets in nine matches at an economy of 8.80. Despite witnessing his ordinary performance, the GT team management retained him for the IPL 2023 edition.

In the 16th season of the league, the pacer’s performance worsened as this time, he picked up seven wickets in seven contests at a miserable economy of 9.38. Along with experienced speedsters Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma, Joseph could’ve wreaked havoc on the opponents but he failed to do so.

The 26-year-old hasn’t done anything big in T20 Internationals (T20Is) played in 2023. Playing six matches in the year, he has taken only 10 wickets but at a disastrous economy of 9.23. Joseph’s inconsistency with the ball might rule him out of the GT’s IPL 2024 squad.
