The Ashes series is all set to commence from December 8. Ahead of the high-profile series, Australia opener David Warner has made his bold predictions on the series. He stated that Australia will win the Ashes 4-0 against the visitors.
Warner also brought in the reference of the former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath. He pointed that just like the speedster’s famous prediction of registering a 5-0 win against England, he would wish the same. But the batter gave a tad bit of concessions when it comes to weather and other uncertain things and thus predicted the team to win 4-0.
“Look, I’m almost a trademark for headlines. It’s going to be a challenge. Glenn (McGrath) loved a five-nil. I’ll say four-nil. There has to be some give with the weather around,” Warner told the SEN radio station from Dubai.
I’m the best fighting when I’m up against the wall: David Warner
David Warner has been experiencing a lean patch with the bat lately. He hasn’t had a good time with the willow in both the IPL and in international cricket. After registering a string of low scores he lost the captaincy of SRH to teammate Kane Williamson.
Warner was also dropped from the side in the first leg of the IPL. However, in the second half of the tournament, he yet again couldn’t make a greater impact with the willow and was dropped from the playing XI. In the practice matches of the T20 World Cup as well, he wasn’t able to chip in big runs. The batter, however, feels that his best comes whilst difficult situations.
“For my sake, ‘I think I’m the best fighting when I’m up against the wall. From my perspective, I always respect where I am with my game. For the last 18 months, ‘there hasn’t been much continuity, due to the pandemic. (Just) trying to get back-to-back games, when we’re so used to playing series after series,” Warner said.
Australia kicked start their World Cup campaign against South Africa by registering a victory by five wickets. The next assignment for the team will be against the Dasun Shanaka-led side. Sri Lanka enters this contest after having won an impressive game against Bangladesh. Heading into this match, Warner would be keen on making his impact on the team.
