Indian spin bowling colossus Anil Kumble etched his name in the record books by becoming the first and only Indian bowler to scalp all 10 wickets to fall in a Test innings. Kumble achieved this historic feat against the Pakistan side in Delhi in the year 1999.

And, on the 23rd anniversary of this epic spell, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a video of Kumble’s 10-wicket haul.

“On this Day in 1999. Team India spin legend Anil Kumble set the stage on fire and became the first Indian to take all the 10 wickets in a Test innings. Let’s relive that sensational performance,” read the tweet from the official Twitter handle of the BCCI.

As far as the match is concerned, India batted first and posted a total of 252 on the board. In reply, Pakistan scored 172. In the second innings, the Indian side scored 339 and set the Pakistan side a challenging target of 420 for victory.

The Pakistan side was cruising at 101/0, but Kumble completely changed the game. The leg spinner ripped through the Pakistan batting lineup and scalped all 10 wickets to fall in the second innings. In the 26.3 overs that he bowled, Kumble leaked 74 runs. Pakistan were bowled out for just 207, and went down by a margin of 212 runs.

And, several fans have taken to Twitter to relive this epic spell from arguably India’s greatest spinner. While one fan tweeted that it is a day that the whole of India will never forget, another fan mentioned how Sachin Tendulkar took Kumble’s hat and sweater before he began every over. Talking about Kumble, the leg spinner is the leading wicket-taker for the Indian side in Test match cricket and has scalped a colossal 619 wickets in the whites. He retired in the year 2008.
