Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star batter Dinesh Karthik shared an old picture of himself in the Mumbai Indians jersey ahead of the clash between the five-time champions and Delhi Capitals. The contest holds importance for RCB as their qualification into the playoffs depends upon MI’s victory. With three spots filled in the top four, the last spot will be taken by either RCB or DC.

If MI emerges victorious against the DC, the Rishabh Pant-led team will be knocked out of the race and the Faf du Plessis-led RCB will qualify for the playoffs by retaining their fourth place in the points table. But, if DC defeats MI in their final league fixture, then they would replace RCB in the fourth spot in order to qualify and play against the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator.

Thus, every RCB fan would be rooting for the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai. As a result, RCB has thrown its entire support behind the five-time IPL champions, who are currently wallowing at the bottom of the table after a disastrous season. Karthik uploaded an old photo of himself in a MI jersey from when he played for the team for two seasons, on Saturday (May 21) morning. “Found this in archives,” Karthik captioned a photo of himself celebrating with a lifted bat.

In IPL 2012, the wicketkeeper-batter played for MI and scored 238 runs. The following season was fairly fruitful for him, as he amassed 510 runs as MI won their maiden IPL title, Karthik’s sole IPL victory to date. So Dinesh Karthik is betting on his previous team to beat DC, another IPL team he has previously represented (then Delhi Daredevils).

Virat Kohli had hinted at RCB players marking their presence at the MI vs DC clash

After former RCB captain Virat Kohli indicated his colleagues would attend the MI versus DC match at Wankhede Stadium, Karthik showed his support. “Trying to put our feet up and chill out for 2 days and support Mumbai. We have 2 more supporters for Mumbai, not just 2 but I think 25 more supporters. You might see us in the stadium as well,” Kohli had said during an interview after RCB’s win over Gujarat Titans on Thursday (May 19) night.
