Despite having five points from four matches, New Zealand are yet to cement their place in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. On the other hand, Ireland with three points are mathematically still a part of the race but for that, they need to beat New Zealand by a massive margin and expect Australia and England to lose their respective matches. Thus, the situation is pretty complicated but never say never in cricket.

The Blackcaps already defeated Australia and Sri Lanka early in the tournament but lost to England by 20 runs in their last match. Glenn Phillips looked sensational but no other batter could help him get the job done. Captain Kane Williamson did score 40 but his strike rate of 100 hurt the team in the end. When it comes to bowling, their senior pros have let them down in the previous match. However, the team has got quality to bounce back and would only eye for a win to not only qualify for the semis but also finish as the league leaders.

Now coming to Ireland, the Andrew Balbirnie-led side stun the cricketing world when they defeated England early on in the tournament but have otherwise looked pale so far. In their last match against Australia, Lorcan Tucker’s magnificent effort kept them in the game but his solo run wasn’t enough to chase down a mammoth target of 180. Joshua Little and Barry McCarthy were impressive with their bowling but couldn’t keep Australia under pressure. Overall, they are a team who can surprise New Zealand on their given day. For that, they’ll have to back themselves and keep calm in the initial stage and the Kiwis are going come hard at them.

Pitch Conditions

The surface at Adelaide Oval has provided more assistance to the batters. Pacers can create an impact early on but the batters will dominate for the majority part of the match. As the ground is relatively smaller than other ones in Australia, it can be a run fest when New Zealand takes on Ireland. Team winning the toss should choose to bowl first.

Playing Combinations for NZ vs IRE

New Zealand

New Zealand are unlikely to make any change, especially in a much crucial game. They of course have a lot of room for improvement but the Kiwis might go with the same XI.

Predicted Playing XI: Finn Allen, Devon Conway(wk), Kane Williamson (c), Glenn Phillips, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult

Ireland

The team might introduce Simi Singh in their next match. Mark Adair conceded a lot of runs in the previous match and thus can be dropped from the playing XI. Also, since the match will be played in Adelaide, an extra spinner might help the team.

Predicted Playing XI: Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie(c), Lorcan Tucker(w), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Simi Singh, Barry McCarthy, Fionn Hand, Joshua Little
