The Indian cricket team is locking horns with the Bangla Tigers in a three-match One-Day International series, and after the culmination of that, both teams will face each other in a two-match Test series. Looking at recent records of Bangladesh on their home soil, it can be said that winning the series in both formats for the Men in Blue won’t be a cakewalk. In 2015, Bangladesh thrashed India 2-1 in a three-game ODI series and showed that beating them on their backyard is not a piece of cake for other teams.

In the last few years, the Bangladesh cricket team has played a lot of ODI cricket against India and has also looked competitive by delivering some impressive shows. In their outings against India in the past few years, the Bangla bowlers have had a huge impact with their performances. In all their triumphs against India in ODIs, the Bangla bowlers have stood tall and shown their best.

On that note, here are some of the best bowling spells from Bangladesh bowlers against India

5. Shakib Al Hasan 5/36, 2022 ODI series

In December 2022, India toured Bangladesh for three ODIs and two Tests. In the absence of regular skipper Tamim Iqbal, Litton Das was leading the team and winning the toss at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, he invited the Men in Blue to bat first in the first ODI.

To give Bangladesh a flying start, Mehidy Hasan, in the sixth over, dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for 7(17). Capitalising on the good start, Shakib Al Hasan also built pressure on India by removing two crucial batters Rohit Sharma (27 off 31) and Virat Kohli (9 off 15). After sending India's top-order packing, Bangladesh were riding high in the game. On the last delivery of the 20th over, Ebadot Hossain dismissed Iyer, who tried to bring India back into the game by building a steady partnership with KL Rahul.

After Iyer’s dismissal, Shakib adopted an agressive approach and picked up the wickets of Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar. The veteran ended his spell by registering 5/36 in ten overs, which helped Bangladesh to restrict India for mere 186 in 41.2 overs and later win the game by one wicket, in what turned out to be a low-scoring thriller.

4. Naimur Rahman 6/132, 2000 Test series

In 2000, after receiving Test status from the International Cricket Council (ICC), Bangladesh hosted India to play their first-ever Test match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. In the debut Test game, Bangladesh delivered a solid batting performance by posting 400 runs on the board with Aminul Islam’s impressive knock of 145 runs.

After a brilliant batting display in the historic Test match, the Bangla Tigers were looking to have a good time with the ball also. Naimur Rahman, the then-skipper of Bangladesh, led from the front by picking up six wickets to end India's first innings on 429. In his swashbuckling spell, he also took the wickets of Shiv Sunder Das, Murali Karthik, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Saba Karim and Ajit Agarkar.

At the end, India won the match by nine wickets as Bangladesh batters delivered a below-par batting performance in the second innings and were dished out scoring just 91 runs. But Rahman with his outstanding bowling display in the historic game made the match memorable for Bangladesh cricket fans.

3. Taskin Ahmed 5/28, 2014 ODI series

In 2014, Bangladesh were back against the wall by losing their first game of the three-match ODI series against India on their home soil. In the second ODI, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, after winning the toss, invited India to bat first and his decision soon proved to be right when Mashrafe Mortaza dismissed Ajinkya Rahane on the second delivery of the game.

Taking advantage of the amazing start, debutant Taskin Ahmed also got emboldened to take an aggressive approach against the Indian batters and demolished their top order. Playing his first game, Ahmed showed his talent by registering figures of 8-0-28-5 with the ball to wind up the Indian innings for a mere 105.

The youngster, with these figures, also became the eighth bowler in ODIs to claim a five-wicket haul on debut. With his scintillating performance, Bangladesh had an opportunity to defeat the Men in Blue in ODIs for the fourth time in history but his efforts went in vain as Bangladesh were bundled out for mere 58 runs.

2. Mashrafe Mortaza 4/38, 2007 ODI World Cup

Bangladesh's five-wicket win over India in the 2007 ODI World Cup is still special for every Bangladesh cricket fan. In the marquee event, the victory over the star-studded Indian cricket team was a big deal. Before the game, many cricket experts had predicted that India would win easily, but Mashrafe Mortaza, who was only 23 years old at that time, had some other plans.

At the Queen’s Park Oval, after winning the toss, Indian skipper Rahul Dravid decided to bat first. Starting the bowling innings for Bangladesh, Mashrafe Mortaza looked aggressive as he dismissed Virender Sehwag in the third over and Robin Uthappa in the seventh over. Capitalizing on the start provided by him, spinners Abdur Razzak and Mohammad Rafique also chipped in by demolishing India's top and middle order.

In the end, Mortaza wrapped up the Indian innings on 191 and also became the most successful bowler of the game by adding the wickets of Ajit Agarkar and Munaf Patel to his bag. With his contribution of 4/38, he became the Player of the Match in the famous World Cup win over heavyweights India.

  1. Mustafizur Rahman’s 6/43 in 2015 ODI series

In 2015, India and Bangladesh met in a three-match ODI series in Bangladesh, and in the tournament, the best thing that happened to Bangladesh was Mustafizur Rahman’s debut. Rahman, playing his debut game, did a great job by helping his team defeat the Men in Blue in the first ODI by taking a five-wicket haul.

Looking at the performance of the debutant in the first game, Bangladesh fans were expecting him to shine with the ball in the second ODI as well, to seal the series. Mustafizur stood up to their expectations and delivered his best by scalping six wickets in 10 overs.

With his amazing bowling effort, he helped Bangladesh to thrash India by six wickets in the match and also claim the maiden ODI series against the Men in Blue. The bowler, for his bowling figure of 6/43, was adjudged the Player of the Match.
