Ever since Ramiz Raja has taken over the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) office, there have been reports of him trying to change a lot of things that have been going on within the system. The former batter had a major difficulty at the very start of his tenure as a chairman. The cancelation of the tour by the New Zealand team and subsequently the England men’s and women’s teams have caused a lot of financial losses for the board.

Now, some reports emerging from Pakistan suggest that the chairman has directed the employees of the board to reduce expenses within the organization in order to uplift Pakistan cricket. Two days ago, the chairman spoke to the employees at the Imran Khan enclosure at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and indirectly gave a warning to the senior employees who have been drawing huge salaries.

If the team doesn’t become no.1, there is no reason for us to stay here: Ramiz Raja to PCB officials

In a new report published on The News, it was revealed that Raja said, “All of us will have to work to justify our positions,” in an address to the board’s officials, ground staff, and lower management. According to the report, the chairman claimed to have learned ways from Prime Minister Imran Khan by which he can reduce the expenses. Khan apparently shared ways in which he saves expenses in the PM’s house and office.

“We have to cut the expenses of the board. Have one cup of tea instead of two, use the air conditioner less and turn off the lights when you leave your offices,” said the PCB chairman. He further said, “If our team does not become the number one team in the world, there is no reason for all of us to stay here. We have to work to justify our presence here.”

Since Raja’s appointment, there has been a new spirit in Pakistan’s cricket. He has urged everyone to target excellence and even urged the cricketers to show how well they can perform. Raja has expressed his wishes to improve grassroots-level cricket. He has given directives to improve pitches across the domestic and low levels of cricket, which will promote improved conditions for the youngsters to get trained in.
